Jimena Agra is a Spanish-born oil painter based in Los Angeles, California, where she has lived and worked since 2017.
Statement
I like to think of my work as a map: a visual record of memory, experience, and decision-making. My paintings draw from vague childhood memories, folklore, and mythology, existing somewhere between the present moment and recollection.
Color and light form the foundation of my work. Through indirect, often anonymous portraits, I explore how identity can be suggested rather than described. The figures are not meant to represent specific individuals, but internal states.
Each painting functions as a fragment of a larger blueprint: imperfect, layered, and shaped by lived experience.
